About Brittan Healthcare

Brittan Healthcare (Pty) Limited, established in 1956 by Joe Brittan, is now a 100% black-owned and black-managed manufacturing and distribution company that has a focus on the Healthcare sector, specifically Medical Device Manufacturing and Beneficiation. Brittan Healthcare is well-established, the brand is well-known and trusted for providing medical technology equipment and surgical supplies. The company’s strategy is to focus on the local manufacture and beneficiation of medical devices.

History

1956

Joe Brittan founded the company. The main focus was to distribute and supply Oxygen Tanks to home-based patients and small clinics.

1965

Separation of the Gas business from Hospital Product Distributorships occurred and Brittanaire (Pty) Ltd was formed to distribute Cardio-Thoracic products from Bentley Laboratories.

1968

Entered into a joint venture with Airshields in the USA to commence the manufacture of Neonatal Equipment in South Africa was undertaken resulting in the incorporation of Airshields of SA (Pty) Ltd.

1979

Bionetics was formed and was responsible for the first locally assembled infusion pumps in South Africa.

1984

Vascumed was formed as a supplier of high-quality Consumables for Catheterisation laboratories and radiology departments

1985

Medical Devices was incorporated and quickly established itself in the dialysis market.

1986

Brittan Healthcare was formed with a multiple company structure 1990. Brittan Healthcare incorporated all the subsidiaries that were currently in the company portfolio.

2001

The Renal division within Brittan Healthcare was sold back to Fresenius Medical Care.

2008

The interventional and cardiology divisions were sold to Surgical Innovations, together with the Sales and Marketing Departments.

2009

The Company entered into a co-operation agreement with Top Draw Healthcare (Pty) Limited as a sales and distribution partner and entered the Procedure Tray market.

2010

The new partnership reversed planned retrenchments, returned to profit, employed 15 more workers and invested in new Multivac packaging machine. The Company was sold to Top Draw Investments (Pty) Limited.

2014

Relocated to a facility in Selby which already had an existing manufacturing capability for Wound Dressing products, First Aid Kits and Accessories.

2015

After the demise of GMS Healthcare, Brittan Healthcare is now manufacturing, marketing and distributing directly to our customers and rebuilding our sales infrastructure.

2016

Zwelethu Equity Capital currently owns the entire issued share capital of Brittan Healthcare (Pty) Ltd.

2017

Relocated the Facility to Wynberg in Johannesburg where new Clean Rooms were constructed.

Expand contract manufacturing of several OEM products and supply sterilization services to various local manufacturers and distributors.

Supply on an economic basis to the public health sector.
